Terrifying moment tourists flee as gunman opens fire at restaurant in Spain

Tourists wearing swimsuits were forced to seek cover as a gunman opened fire outside a packed restaurant.

The enjoyable evening of many holidaymakers was plunged into chaos on Tuesday (July 18) as a man was filmed firing what appears to be a sub-machinegun in Puerto Banus, a resort town in the Spain’s holiday hotspot of Costa del Sol region.

Astonishing footage taken from a nearby window shows a man opening fire in broad daylight, at approximately 6pm.

The attacker who sparked terror among people and caused many to flee from the area, is believed to have arrived by car moments before opening fire, and was later seen being driven away after the upsetting incident.

Three shoots were heard being fired, according to local reports.

The terrifying incident happened near the popular Cristamar shopping centre which attracts many for its shops, offices and restaurants.

Police officers aren’t believed to have made any arrests yet, but on Tuesday were on looking for at least two people in connection to this episode.

Costa del Sol was in the news this week also for another, unrelated, incident.

Police are investigating the death of a 32-year-old woman who suffered serious injuries after seemingly falling off a jet ski on the weekend.

An initial probe has suggested the woman was travelling on a three-seater jet ski, local publication SUR wrote.

The victim was reportedly on the back of the vehicle and, during the journey, she fell off it

A man and another woman who were with her on the boat rushed to rescue her from the water and took her to the shore.

Costa del Sol, located in the autonomous Andalusia province, is a destination particularly beloved by British tourists.

But the area is also loved by expats and pensioners in particular, who decide to spend their years of retirement basking in the sun and enjoying a more tranquil lifestyle.

The all-year-round sunshine is believed to be a key reason why Britons love the area, as are the stunning beaches and outdoor attractions including water parks and public gardens.
