Oakland: Shooting on I-980 sends one to hospital

OAKLAND – A shooting Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 980 in Oakland sent a person to the hospital, the California Highway Patrol said.

The Oakland CHP area office received word at 3:15 p.m. that a person had arrived at Highland Hospital with a gunshot wound. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The victim told hospital personnel the shooting happened on I-980 near 18th Street.

The CHP said the circumstances that led to the shooting remained under investigation Tuesday night. The motive was undetermined and no suspects had been identified.

All lanes of eastbound I-980 were closed for an investigation for about 30 minutes.

On Friday night, gunfire erupted between two vehicles on Interstate 580 near Harrison Street in Oakland. An 8-year-old boy riding in a third vehicle was caught in the crossfire and gravely injured. The CHP has not announced any arrests in that case.
